Role Overview



The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and, as a member of the leadership team, directs the organization’s 501c3 and 501c4 fundraising and donor cultivation efforts. With a focus on fundraising strategy development and implementation, the Development Director leads the fundraising team in all communication and donor management efforts. You must have a commitment to Advance&#8217;s mission to build power in Indigenous communities to protect tribal sovereignty and determine the policies, resources, and leadership that will ensure our cultures and future generations are protected and self-determined.



The Development Director collaborates closely with Advance’s leadership team (Executive Director, Executive Assistant, Communications Director, Director of Operations and Organizational Growth, and National Program Director), and leads the organization&#8217;s efforts to set and achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals, to build strong relationships with fundraising partners, and measure progress throughout the year to ensure success.

Development Director Key Responsibilities



Fundraising Management&nbsp;

Position Overview



The Tech and Database Associate leverages their technical capabilities, communication acumen, and leadership skills to strengthen data systems, improve staff utilization and adoption, and collaboratively shape the future of technology and data at our organization and enable us to build powerful movements for liberation and climate justice. The Tech and Database Associate is part of the Radical Operations team and will report to the Operations Manager.



We understand that to achieve our bold vision of a Just Transition we need to dramatically transform and leverage data and technology with a value-aligned, secure approach to support our members’ innovative work; enable nimble and emergent organizing; support experimentation; and daily manage our complex operations. The Associate, in conjunction with staff and members, will be responsible for collaborating on necessary transformations in our technology and data systems that strategically equip our staff to support members in building power at the grassroots. They are responsible for executing the day-to-day configuration, support, maintenance, and improvements of our internal platforms, database, and technology; supporting our capacity to operate efficiently and securely, and providing support to end-users through ongoing training and technical assistance. They will focus on maximizing the impact of our strategic vision by strengthening the position of the CRM as our one source of data as well as support the development of a culture of information through coordination of all aspects of our technology environment with support from the Managing Director including long-term planning, strategy execution, and change management.

Core Responsibilities



Maintain and Manage CJA’s Database, Equipment, and Provide IT Support for all Technology Platforms (50%)



<ul>
<li>Coordinates provision of IT support, services, and maintenance to all staff.&nbsp;</li>

<li>Maintain tech inventory with the Rad Operations Manager and develop and implement systems to accurately plan and budget for emergent and planned tech needs.</li>

<li>Work to build and maintain CJA’s CRM functionality for the organization and each staff team’s specific needs. Coordinate and monitor data entry across all departments of the organization.</li>

<li>Oversee regular strategic review of CJA’s CRM implementation (Powerbase and Salesforce) in conjunction with key staff and contractors by gathering requirements from stakeholders, designing and configuring system changes, coordinating appropriate testing, and ultimately launching new and/or enhanced developments with end-users.</li>

<li>Along with our I.T. contractors, monitor the system for security issues, evaluate and oversee timely updates of the software, manage user access, and liaison with IT and vendors on appropriate desktop and mobile tools for monitoring.</li>



<li>Keep technology policies and organizational use standards up to date with modern trends and in line with organizational goals.</li>



<li>Stay current on trends and emerging technologies to make proactive recommendations on applications, policies, and practices.</li>

The plan should deliver solutions that fulfill the organizations’ information needs to achieve our strategic plan.</li>



<li>Develop, adopt, and implement new technology tools and practices, while improving upon existing systems. Create and implement best practices.</li>



<li>Innovate and provide expertise and guidance around new technology tools and experiments.</li>



<li>Update and train staff on protocols for data entry, monitoring, and updating. Provide ongoing training, tutorial support, produce documentation and in other ways support the independence and self-reliance of CJA staff.</li>

<li>Empower and educate staff to better manage and understand data to support them in their existing projects and programs by:</li>

<li>In partnership with the Logistics Associate, the Tech and Database Associate will support, design and implement virtual, in-person, and hybrid events. The Tech and Database Associate is responsible for the following:</li>



<li>Tech Budget: The Tech and Database Associate will compile a tech budget for all equipment and/or contracting needed for events.</li>



<li>Tech set-up and break-down: Responsible for event setup whether it’s management of contractors or CJA staff. This includes sound systems, projectors and screens, microphones, computers, and lighting.</li>

Build Organizational Work Culture and Other Responsibilities (10%)

As a member of the Murdock Trust Technology Team, the IT Analyst works as a part of the team responsible for providing technology support and services to the organization. Gender Justice and Gender Justice Action are nonprofit legal, policy, and political advocacy organizations based in St. Paul, Minnesota working in Minnesota and North Dakota to advance gender equity through the law. We fight discrimination based on sex, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We represent clients directly in state and federal court and before administrative agencies in impact and strategic litigation cases. In addition to pursuing justice through the legal system, we also advocate for policies that expand gender equity and educate the public about their rights and how to fight gender discrimination. We employ grassroots organizing, coalition building, strategic communications, and narrative strategies to create the movement momentum and cultural conditions for gender equity to flourish. We are also the institutional home of the UnRestrict Minnesota coalition and campaign which works to protect, expand, and destigmatize access to abortion care–and all reproductive healthcare—in Minnesota through public education, advocacy, and the law.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-position-summary">Position Summary:</h3>



The Development Director is the executive in charge of the development team, focused on fundraising for Gender Justice’s entities (c3 and c4) in Minnesota and North Dakota. The total budget for both organizations is around $3.5M with the majority of funding coming from foundation grants, then individual gifts, and some earned income. The development team works to ensure that there are sufficient resources for GJ/A to lead as a powerful advocate across broad segments of the progressive gender justice movement in the region. The creative and passionate professionals of the development team play an essential role in driving GJ/A’s mission through a robust resource development strategy consisting of institutional supporters and individual giving. 



The Development Director (DD) is in a critical position in defining the vision and stewarding the growth of the fundraising infrastructure at GJ/A. The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director and reports directly to the Deputy Director. The Development Director owns the fundraising bottom line for GJ/A and manages the Senior Manager of Institutional Giving and Development Coordinator. The DD is also a key member of GJ/A’s Leadership Team and works collaboratively with teams across the organization in furtherance of resource development. This position regularly interacts with the both of GJ/A boards overall and staff its Fundraising Committee.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Responsibilities:</h3>



The Development Director is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for managing the operations of the development department. This role leads the organization’s fundraising strategy in partnership with the Executive Director and Deputy Director and with input from the Board. Duties include but are not limited to:

Digital Strategist

The Digital Fundraising Manager reports to the Director of Annual Giving and is responsible for managing and facilitating the League’s digital fundraising channels to identify, engage, cultivate, and solicit donors. The Digital Fundraising Manager collaborates with Marketing &amp; Communications, Program, and Development staff, as well as external vendors, to enhance and implement strategies to engage donors in digital platforms towards our goals to renew and increase online donations. The Digital Fundraising Manager helps shape digital creative content, produce fundraising strategies with our digital fundraising consultants, and support the development team in digital communications for donors at all levels. This position executes, monitors, and optimizes digital fundraising campaigns.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-about-the-salesforce-team">About the Salesforce team</h2>



At Open Philanthropy, we use Salesforce to manage our grantmaking. We aim to make our system a user-friendly, end-to-end solution for grant processing and information management. Our Salesforce user base is around 150 and growing, and our instance is low-record-volume but high-touch and high-complexity, with lots of customization. This role will work closely with our existing team to support the following functions:



Salesforce:



<ul>
<li>Own the user support life cycle, resolving simple cases where possible, and consulting with or escalating to other stakeholders as necessary. Keep-case resolution on track and nudge stakeholders as necessary.</li>



<li>Build and provide feedback on existing Salesforce reports and dashboards.</li>



<li>Onboard new users, personalizing the standard half-hour hands-on welcome as needed to a given new user&#8217;s role and needs.</li>



<li>Create and maintain documentation related to Salesforce functionality.</li>



<li>Proactively propose potential enhancements or bug fixes to existing systems and processes.</li>



<li>Serve as a business analyst on some projects, working with stakeholders to document existing processes and user requirements and then refine them into a collection of user stories, each with a &#8220;definition of done&#8221;.</li>



<li>As assigned, develop new solutions which may include declarative or programmatic approaches (you don&#8217;t need to be a developer, but please mention it if you are or have some development experience).</li>
</ul>



Project Management:



<ul>
<li>Serve as project manager for all Salesforce-adjacent projects:</li>



<li>Guard project scope</li>



<li>Allocate engineering capacity and keep stakeholders up to speed about project progress</li>



<li>Help make sure all stakeholders are meeting deadlines and are not blocked or awaiting work from others</li>



<li>Work in an agile model to facilitate the estimation, prioritization, and execution of tasks.</li>
</ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-who-might-be-a-good-fit">Who might be a good fit</h2>



We are looking for someone with experience administering Salesforce, preferably with experience in technical project management. 



A successful candidate will also demonstrate most of these qualities:

<li>Great communication: we communicate clearly, concisely, and with an appropriate tone in documentation and written communication.</li>



<li>Approachable: users should feel happy to ask us questions, tell us when something is slowing them down, and seek our help.</li>



<li>Flexible: we don&#8217;t get tied to one solution; we&#8217;re able to cater to many stakeholders with different preferences and processes. We know that occasionally abandoning good ideas and project progress in response to new organizational needs is part of the work.</li>



<li>Organized: we love to make plans and see them executed, keep people around us on track, and demonstrate excellent attention to detail.</li>



<li>Problem-solving: we find creative new approaches and then tweak them (and tweak them, and tweak them again); we enjoy the puzzle-like aspect of solving hard problems in novel ways; we pride ourselves on coming up with a few possible solutions to a challenge and then picking the very best option.</li>

<li>Compensation:&nbsp;Compensation for this role is $141,696.84, which would be distributed as a base salary of $123,214.64 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $18,482.20.&nbsp;</li>



<li>These compensation figures assume a remote location; there would be geographic adjustments upwards for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Washington, D.C.</li>



<li>For internationally based hires, all compensation will be distributed in the form of take-home salary.</li>
