Empowering diverse technology leaders
This collaborative program from NTEN, Fuse Change, and Liminal Labs supports emerging developers across neurodiverse identities, increasing their experience and skills in open-source product development and nonprofit technology application development. The program also includes events open to anyone interested in neurodiversity in the workplace, open-source development, and nonprofit technology.
About the Open Source Fellowship
Online training
Launching in 2025, online courses will be available for anyone interested in learning more about open source development, technology product management, and building open source tools in nonprofits. These courses will be integrated into the learning plans for fellows but also available to anyone to take online. NTEN will also open the Open Source in Nonprofits Professional Certificate to recognize individuals who complete a full certificate program of courses.
In-person events
Public events will take place in 2025 and 2026 throughout the Portland, OR area featuring neurodiverse practitioners sharing their experience working in technology industries and roles, employers sharing tips for hiring and supporting neurodiverse and technical staff, and more. We welcome partner organizations or individuals to join as speakers, participants, or event hosts.
Fellowship cohort
Designed for individuals with diverse neurological profiles, such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Dysgraphia, Auditory Processing Disorder, Dyscalculia, and Autism Spectrum Disorder who have some open source or development experience, the Fellowship provides for a 12-month paid position to contribute to at least one open source product in a supportive environment that celebrates their unique strengths, while enriching the workforce with fresh creativity and unique insights. Applications for the first cohort of five fellows will open in Spring 2025.
Expert guidance
We know there is a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the community. Fellows benefit from paid mentorship from other practitioners and events include opportunities for those entering or advancing in the sector to build community.
