Birds of a feather
Birds of a Feather is a beloved NTC tradition that happens during lunch and receptions. It’s your chance to grab a seat with people who share a curiosity, a challenge, or a passion — whether that’s WordPress, motorcycles, digital inclusion, or something delightfully niche. These conversations are casual and flexible by design: show up, pull up a chair, and see where the conversation goes. You don’t need to RSVP, but space is limited, so come early and claim your spot.
How to participate in Birds of a Feather:
- In person: Go to the meal area during lunch and afternoon receptions, then find the table that has a sign with the topic you’re interested in.
- Virtually: Join the birds of a feather Zoom at the scheduled time. The Zoom host will help you join the breakout room for the topic you’re interested in.
Host a topic
You can submit topics for Birds until March 9, 2026. After this date, you can still host a topic, but it may not be displayed on the conference agenda.
How can I host a topic?
Hosting is easy. You just need to arrive at your table on time and be welcoming. It’s also good to plan a few discussion points to help get the conversation flowing.
In Detroit – find a table with your pre-submitted Birds sign on it, or find an empty table in the meal area and write your topic on the table sign. Virtually – join the birds of a feather Zoom, then let the Zoom host know your topic, and they’ll open a breakout room for the conversation.
What kind of topics can I host?
Our community is filled with people with a wide variety of interests, so topics don’t have to be related to technology. For inspiration, check out the topics already scheduled or consider these ideas:
- Creative folks in tech: art, design, and side projects
- Digital inclusion work in local communities
- Housing and community development nonprofits
- Introverts’ table: eat together, no pressure to talk
- Latino/as in nonprofit tech
- Local organizing strategies
- Measuring impact (and how we can do better)
- Midwest meetup
- Queer attendees at NTC
