Communications and Web Manager

Description

This is initially a part time (50% FTE) position with a competitive salary and benefits and immediate growth potential for the right person.

The Communications and Web Manager will in equal part manage NTEN's communications and web presence by writing timely and engaging online content and improve and develop the overall effectiveness of its website and organizational communications.

Duties include

NTEN Website:

  • Work with staff to develop content and maintains accuracy and currency of Web content for services, products and events as well as specific online projects.
  • Coordinates closely messages and timing with other program and membership staff, oversee communication flow.
  • Project manage continuous development and improvement of NTEN's Drupal site
  • Identify and coordinate the production and creation of relevant design, content workflow, navigation, and functionality of site.
  • Write, research, and copy-edit web content
  • Write, solicit, and/or adapt content for NTEN’s blog and other media
  • Increase knowledge of emerging web technologies and provide ongoing education for staff in effective and creative use of web technologies
  • Monitor and analyze Web site use and traffic and reports trends on the effectiveness of the site on a routine basis.

Other Communications/Newsletter and Mailing lists:

  • Write, edit, research and update content for web, monthly newsletter, occasional action alerts and other publications. Work with staff to develop material, create action/news alerts.
  • Format and mail newsletters, and tracks and reports on open and click-through rates, and other usage metrics.
  • Grow and maintain NTENÂ’s email lists and newsletter subscribers.
  • Work with staff to prepare other outreach materials (press releases, fact sheets) for communications campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • Outstanding web development and production experience
  • Proven writing and editing skills for the Web and within a tech context
  • Graphic design and user interface/information architecture experience
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple projects on tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging web technologies and potential applications
  • Experience in online organizing and community-building
  • Familiarity with existing and emerging online communities and blogs
  • Commitment to and passion for NTEN's mission and values
  • Ability to work as part of a tight and entrepreneurial team
  • Curious and passionate technologists
  • Strong sense of humor and ability to have fun while working as part of a great team

Desired Technical Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of standards compliant HTML & CSS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience in web server administration and programming in a PHP/MySQL environment
  • Experience in video production a plus
  • Knowledge of Javascript, content management systems (esp. Drupal), email advocacy systems a plus.

Program Assistant/CTC Vista

NTEN is looking for another CTC Vista to help our growing and vibrant community!

NTEN is the membership organization for IT and technology professionals in the nonprofit sector. We run the largest nonprofit technology event in the world, the Nonprofit Technology Conference, and we provide a plethora of services to the people who help nonprofit organizations use technology effectively.

NTEN seeks a highly motivated, self-starting, and flexible individual to work with our team to assist in the development and execution of NTEN's programs, with a special emphasis on programs serving women, minorities, and low income populations. This position offers the right individual the opportunity to understand many aspects of running a small nonprofit, as well as the opportunity to meet and gain exposure to hundreds of other nonprofits across the globe.

Your work would include

  • Planning and executing events of all sizes. You might be coordinating a seminar on municipal wireless access in Philadpelphia, running an online seminar for women in nonprofit IT, or planning workforce development workshop at our 1000+ person annual conference in New Orleans.
  • Researching and reporting on the tools and trends that are affecting the sector. You�ll have the opportunity to try out and test some of the latest and most innovative software, widgets, and web strategies. Then you�ll develop materials to help other nonprofits adopt and use these tools and strategies to successfully change the world. For example, you might investigate how text messaging can be used by food banks to serve clients more effectively. 
  • Participating in and manage an online community of over 2000 individuals from around the globe. You�ll participate in and monitor community discussions to facilitate knowledge sharing across the community and help NTEN develop the programs and services that will best meet community needs. You�ll also help cultivate and reward community leaders that reflect the diversity of race, gender, and experiences in our sector.
  • Supporting our programs. Behind every amazing NTEN experience is a solid infrastructure. You will help maintain that infrastructure by working with the team to ensure that administrative needs are met.

We are looking for a talented and energetic individual to join our team through the CTC Vista Program this June. The CTC VISTA Project places Americorps*VISTA members with non-profit organizations across the country that utilize information and communications technologies to address the needs to low-income and at-risk communities.CTC VISTA members work to build the capacity of the individual organizations where they serve and collaborate with other VISTAs on the development of resources, trainings, and related projects. Through their work the Project endeavors to build a network that facilitates collaboration, support, and the sharing of ideas among a diverse group of participating organizations.
