Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the strategic steward of the TechImpact Project. Under its guidance, the project’s goals and outcomes were developed and refined. Throughout the evaluation process, the Steering Committee will lend its leadership and strategic advice.

Pete Manzo
Former Executive Director of the Center for Nonprofit Management in Los Angeles

Prior to leading the Center, Pete was Directing Attorney of Community Development Programs for Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono law firm, and the Los Angeles affiliate of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, where he represented nonprofit charitable organizations in a broad range of matters. Before moving into the nonprofit sector, Pete practiced real estate and corporate law, first at the law firm of Riordan & McKinzie, then at Tuttle & Taylor in Los Angeles.

Pete is a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. He also attended the London School of Economics where he received a Master's degree in Political Sociology, and the University of Notre Dame where he received a Bachelor's degree in Government.

Carol Silverman

Director of Research, University of San Francisco Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management

Carol serves as Research Director for the Institute. She has a number of current interests, including: peoples’ biographies of civic engagement – how does their involvement change over time in response to specific events and changes in their own lives; strategies to promote homeownership for moderate income households using the mutual benefit form; the dual role of intra- and extra-organizational factors in facilitating the use of technology by small nonprofits; and a statistical portrait of the nonprofit sector in California. Carol received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Katrin Verclas

Principal, Calder Strategies

Katrin is a principal at Calder Strategies.  She was previously the Executive Director of NTEN. Prior to joining NTEN in 2006, Katrin co-directed Aspiration: Better Tools for a Better World, a nonprofit organization focused on providing software-related services and resources to other nonprofit organizations. Katrin also coordinates MobileActive, a global network of activists and NGOs using mobile phones for social change. Before Aspiration, Katrin worked as a consultant, as deputy director of a holding organization of grantmaking funds, and as a program officer. Katrin serves on the boards of Mobile Voter and the Amherst Parent Coalition, and is on the Technical Advisory Committee of Moms Rising.

Roger Wood

Manager of Product Development for Community Impact Leadership Division, United Way of America

Roger develops products that provide direction and support for local United Ways and that focus on organizational development, outcome measurement, and technology. Prior to this role he was the Manager of Outcome Planning and Measurement Implementation for United Way of America. Roger’s United Way career spans more than 20 years and includes a position as Director of Community Investments for United Way of Greater High Point, North Carolina, where he was responsible for fund distribution, outcome measurement, community initiatives, and public policy. He also served the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area, Ohio, as Vice President for Branch Operations. Later he served as Vice President of the United Way of South Carolina, a statewide organization.
