Events Management: Tales from the Trenches

Submitted by Anna on Tue, 09/16/2008 - 3:46pm.

Events management means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. The session will give a brief overview of how events management helps regular organizations-- scheduling classes, conferences, friend-of-a-friend fundraising, etc.    Two case studies will dive into a tool centric story of how these organizations met their events needs (they are CiviCRM users). One of the cases with be the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research.     Please note. This session is not a CiviCRM commercial... we will focus on both the pros and cons of the solution. Q&A will also bring up plenty of other options.    The "vendor problem" in NTEN conferences means that it is very difficult to get a honest and thorough, from the trenches view, of how a specific tool works and a step-by-step idea of how to implement the strategy presented in other sessions. Users of an open source tool like CiviCRM provides a great opportunity for NTEN members to get honest, detailed input from the trenches about the good bad and ugly of actual implementations.

Takeaways:

1. High level overview of what events management can do for an organization.

2. Real world stories of two organizations trying to achieve their goals with CiviCRM

3. Problems, opportunities and epiphanies reached by the organization in their pursuit of solving their events management problems

This would definitely help organizations who rely on events to fund their operations and program services.
