Servicemembers Legal Defense Network

Since launching an online communications strategy in April, the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) has raised $63,000 in online donations. Much of this success comes from growing our email list from 3,000 to 23,000 people over the past seven months. Online donations of major gifts this year show more individuals giving "large" ($1,000 or more) gifts. We've also seen a big increase in our $1,000+ (Patriot Circle) gifts, receiving several $5,000 gifts as well as a $10,000 gift online.
This year's our annual fundraising dinner raised another $40,000 this year, in large part due to using email and online event registration to drive participation. Because of this year's success in raising major gifts online, next year we'll implement a strategy that drives more donors online.

Earlier this year the Humane Society Legislative Fund analyzed the return on investment on one of our fundraising campaigns that included an email postcard followed by direct mail, direct mail only, email only, and direct mail followed by emails. We found that the most successful element of our campaign was a direct mail piece followed by email. It netted 55 percent (just over $5,000) of the $9,380 in total net revenue.
