The Jewish Genetics Disease Consortium (JGDC) has an immediate opening for a Communications Assistant (CA). The CA will assist the JGDC's Executive Committee with record keeping, document preparation and internal / external communications. The JGDC is a nonprofit organization focused on public education and genetic screening related to genetic diseases that affect the Jewish population.
This position requires that the candidate possesses excellent written communication and organizational skills, with a high degree of proficiency in computer skills, especially email, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. The CA will be required to enter into a confidentiality agreement.
The CA will be required to handle correspondence, record keeping, document preparation, email distribution, and coordinate web site and PR material. The CA will also be responsible for attending a monthly meeting in Manhattan and producing meeting minutes. The CA will also be required to attend screening events and lectures presented by the JGDC, as well as work at conferences/exhibitions. The majority of these events occur in the NY metro area, but some take place in other parts of the country.
The computer / correspondence work can be done from home. This candidate should be based in NYC, preferably Manhattan. Hours are flexible. Will require approximately 10-20 hours per week, with occasional visits to NYC locations to meet with JGDC management.
Candidate should have 2 years office experience, or 2 years volunteer management experience, or be a graduate student. Interest and experience in genetic diseases and genetic counseling is a plus. Experience with, and sensitivity to, Jewish culture is also a plus.
