The webmaster will work in a team environment made up of several teams including information technology, marketing and development, program staff, partner agencies and outside consultants to design, implement and maintain new sites as well as maintain existing sites. The websites will incorporate a wide range of feature functionality including editorial content, e-learning, e-fundraising, e-com and advocacy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Website Development (50%)
- Analysis: Works with designated teams to conduct needs assessment and develop functional specifications for new websites and web-based applications.
- Content Management: Develops and maintains methodologies to organize web content.
- Graphic Design: Manages visual design using appropriate tools with assistance from a professional graphic designer for major design tasks, and directly for minor design needs.
- Coding: Light HTML/CSS coding or managing software engineer for major coding initiatives.
- UI Testing: Manages UI expert to carry out UI tests for major revisions; directly conducts informal UI testing for minor revisions.
- QA & Burn-In: Testing for overall web site quality assurance and specifically for 508 compliance. Tests and codes websites for compatibility with major browsers.
- Technical Infrastructure: Specify and manage, in conjunction with IT manager, web hosting requirements.
- Copywriting: Develop web site copywriting best practices (with assistance from outside vendor experts). Works with internal stakeholders to develop web-ready copy. Web master to assist occasionally with light copy writing.
- Commercial Software Implementation: Implements interactive and transactional web site features using commercially available software tools for e-CRM, e-Fundraising, Advocacy, Social Networking and e-Learning.
- Web Analytics: With assistance from external vendor experts, specify and implement a commercial web analytics platform.
- SEO/SEM: With the assistance from external vendor experts, specify and implement viable SEO and SEM strategies to maximize site promotion and branding.
- Project Management: Coordinates with external vendors, and internal program, marketing and development staff as internal project lead.
- Financial Planning: Assist supervisor and senior executive team in crafting and tracking web site implementation and infrastructure budget.
Website Maintenance (40%)
- Content Workflow: Develop and maintain a workflow plan including content creation, review, approval, publishing and archival across all participating internal departmental stakeholders
- Content Creation: Work with content authors, both internal and external to create, gather and edit content for websites
- Technical Support: Work with IT Manager and hosting providers technical staff to field questions from internal stakeholders and identify and resolve problems with minimal disruptions or downtime.
- Customer Support: Field questions and issues from public site visitors. Work with internal technical, program, fundraising, and marketing stakeholders to resolve issues.
- Web Analytics & Reporting: Track website usage statistics and user feedback to formulate strategies for short term and long term improvements
- SEO/SEM: On-going management of SEO/SEM initiatives.
- On-going Site Integrity: Review site for broken links, out-dated content, and incorrect or non-functioning interactive or transactional forms; take corrective action
- Web Site Budget: On-going assistance in tracking and managing web site budget and related expenditures.
Ongoing Professional Development (5%)
- Maintain a current skill set in job-related skills through continuing education, conferences, discussion with colleagues and experimentation
- Complete vendor training and demonstrations as needed
- Serve on related agency and partner committees
- Work on special committees as assigned
- Completes other tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
- Extensive knowledge of web standards and technologies
- Understanding of website design principles and best practices
- Understanding of content management principles and applications
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS with Javascript and Flash a definite plus.
- Knowledge of design applications such as Adobe Photoshop or similar software.
- Familiarity with basic networking and system infrastructure platforms.
- Familiarity with multimedia applications such as video and audio streaming
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to meet deadlines through effective planning and prioritization
- Positive attitude and ability to work in a team setting
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience working with website portals
- Experience with nonprofit-specific software applications for eCRM and CMS a definite plus.
- Experience with the definition and roll-out of social networking-based community web sites a definite plus.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and ability is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to qualify is:
- Bachelors Degree or higher;
- Ability to work independently, accurately, and within time lines
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Positive outlook, enthusiasm, self-motivated and high energy
- Ability to function as part of a team
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
- Valid California Drivers License
- Ability to obtain criminal clearance

- Required to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of training or continuing education as directed and approved by the CEO and the CFO
