Citizen Powered Data Entry
Updating contact lists can be a major headache for organizations and
often the only way to get the work done is to hire an intern or a temp.
Green Media Toolshed came up with a different solution.
With its Media Volunteer Center, GMT asks people to go online and update a few contacts in its database. But what's really neat is that the website makes this so easy it's hard to resist. Really. There are three types of information you can update - a reporter's contact information, a media outlet's contact information, and an organization's website. Once you select a category, you're taken to a webpage that tells you who to call, what to say, and what information to update, or what information to look for online. That's it.
It's simple and pretty darn compelling. It helps that it's also for a good cause. GMT's Media Contact Database provides media contact information to nonprofits and advocacy groups to help them get their stories covered. Check it out and if you have a few minutes to spare, update some contact information and take part in a different kind of citizen media.
