Class Overview

Fish Food? Well, ok maybe not fish food, but how about food for thought. You have been asking, no make that begging for Antharia to shorten and put a number of our key classes online. Well ask and ye' shall receive! Antharia's new FISH FO­OD series of classes are just the facts, a quick hit overview of just what the computer ordered.

In this 120 minute action packed class, you will observe and interact with your instructor as they bob and weave throughout the inner workings of CSS. The lessons and examples are taken from real world assignments.

Many of us have tried our hand at CSS. From using Dreamweaver to hand coding some basic font styles, we all get how easy CSS is… but do we really get how powerful CSS is? Learn more about the power of CSS!

Prerequisites

Basic HTML knowledge recommended, but not required. In that this is an online class, a computer and high speed internet connection are required. Students will be provided a toll free conference call in line for the audio portion of this class. Students are welcome to follow along with the exercises, all work shown will be done in code view of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, but any plain text editor will do.

Materials

Class includes course workbook (via PDF), access to Antharia University's Wiki (online community and exchange), and students will also have 90 days of access to their instructor (via email) for questions and answers.

Lesson 2: Understanding Selectors & Properties

* Tag selectors

* TIME PERMITTING: Pseudo-class selectors

Lesson 3: Understanding CSS Properties & Positioning

* Syntax
* Setting font attributes
* Controlling Size & Position

Lesson 4: Bringing it all into Focus

* Putting it all together
* Working backwards from HTML
* Semantic markup

Objectives

Students in this class will take away the following key elements:

1. Students will gain practical experience working with CSS-based layouts.
2. Solid understanding of CSS typography.
3. Students will work with all of the major cross browser CSS2 selectors, and learn how to use CSS to make their coding and designing as efficient as possible.
