Demographics and Sub-Demographics: Web Analytics Demystified
Presented by Jordan Dossett from Antharia
Knowing how much traffic your website gets, and which part of your site is most important to your visitors can be a crucial step in increasing revenue streams, donations, membership, and so on. Knowing as much as possible about your site visitors is another story. Most of us know the basics about our site visitors (known as demographics): Are they male? Female? How old are they? But what about sub-demographics: How much money do they make? What is their geographic location? What are their donation and contribution habits? What search keywords did they use to find your site? What is their thinking about online purchases?
Web Analytics, Web Metrics, Demographics, Sub-demographics, and Psycho-demographics all play a large part in your website. Thing is, you have no idea how to track or analyze this crucial and important information. In this session we will work through a series of worksheets to identify the primary stakeholders or demographics of your organization's site, and then we will further break these lists down into sub- and psycho-demographics. With all of this information in hand we will look at how to analyze and measure the information, and then what to do with it once collected. Finally, we'll look at some demographic and metric tracking software that you can institute on your website.
