The 501 Tech Club is a monthly gathering of people working on or interested in nonprofit technology in the Seattle Area. Our meetings are opportunities for anyone interested in helping nonprofits use technology to get together and talk shop in a fun, informal setting, and our name refers to the fact that most of us work primarily with and for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Event Materials

Great conversation about the issues facing IT staff and consultants today in the area. We had attendence from independents, H4 Consulting, Seattle Foundation, and NPower. Talk ranged from how IT staff at nonprofits are harder to retain now that the economy's up, how to encourage management to listen to important contributions and concerns that IT staff raise, how to give IT staff more of a piece of the mission and overcome being marginalized technologists, to what role foundations play and can play in improving the technology health at nonprofits. Given that many of these issues have persisted for a long time now, maybe it's time for some action that is not just suggestive, but perhaps it needs also to be disruptive.

Anyway it was a great discussion. Hope to see you next time.
