Inbox N'at

Flickr Photo: DunechaserFlickr Photo: DunechaserI'm shovelling my way out of both snow and email this week.

The snow part has been humorous (because Portlanders don't do snow). The email in-box project has also been surprisingly fun: I found quite a few tidbits -- or this n'at, as Pittsurghers would say -- worth sharing.

Here are some of the things I came across that you might also enjoy:

  • Batgirl fights for equal pay.  This is a great example of nonprofit video done right.  Congrats to the Center for American Progress.
  • The Security Quiz.  I'll admit, I couldn't answer a few of these.  Bad Geek!  I'm not sure your staff needs to know what an AUP is to secure your data properly, but I think talking about security with staff is good.
  • The Change.gov Widget. Get all your Obama administration news wherever you go, without CNN (thus avoiding Nancy Grace).
  • Five things we learned from Bill Gates.  You may recall that Bill Gates stepped down from his full-time role at Microsoft this year.  The folks at TechRepbulic take a look at what we can learn from him.  My favorite: it's not being first, but executing the idea best that matters.
  • Rapleaf.  I had heard of these guys before, but finally signed up for a sample analysis of the NTEN community.  Surprise!  You guys have a LOT of profiles on social networks.  And a lot of friends.  People like you!  They also have some really interesting stats about social network usage.
  • KnightPulse.  The latest project from the Knight Foundation does some really innovative stuff.  In the KnightPulse community, you can talk about everything from the future of newspapers to content licensing schemes.
  • Finally -- and this is not at all NPTech related, but you KNOW how I feel about bacon -- instead of a yule log this year, why not try a Bacon Log? (Link courtesy of my fabulous husband, whom I clearly do not deserve.)
