NTEN Milestone: Our 1500th Member!

In case you hadn't noticed, NTEN's been growing: in content, services, community and membership. In fact, we are very happy to announce today our 1500th NTEN member for 2008, Claire Murray, who joined NTEN over the weekend.

Welcome, Claire, and thank you to all our members, newly joined or with NTEN from the beginning, in 2000, when membership was a proud 150 in count. In 8 years we've grown by 10 times our original size!

So that you don't think we're just trying to toot our own horn here, what we'd really like to celebrate with this milestone is the thought that NTEN has been able to increase its impact on the nonprofit community as a whole because we know that every person who learns something or makes a new connection through our resources turns around and passes it on to other colleagues and organizations.

And that means we're that much closer to achieving our mission:

NTEN aspires to a world where all nonprofit organizations skillfully and confidently use technology to meet community needs and fulfill their missions.

So, with that, I'd like to ask: How has technology helped your organization better meet community needs and fulfill your mission? What's your nptech story? And--I can't resist--what's your NTEN story?

It was almost 6 years ago, I think. Our org was going under. I was desperately searching for connections to help us. I was so desperate that I was hunting around in my alama mater's alum database (primitive form of social networking), and I found NTEN's E.D. at the time and a link to NTEN. I called him up and asked him all about it. It sounded exactly like what we needed. We then went to a small NTEN conference in Boston... met more people we already knew, and new people who were immensely helpful... and we were hooked.

NTEN connected us in ways that helped us completely transform our org's programmatic work, as well as the way we work internally. Our org survived, in part, because of NTEN.

So I am very happy to hear about your 1500th member milestone. You've come so far. Congratulations! And thanks for everything you do.
