Pizzigati Prize Nominations
The Tides Foundation has begun accepting nominations for the Antonio Pizzigati Prize for Software in the Public Interest. The Pizzigati Prize "offers a $10,000 award to a software developer who has made, in the spirit of open source computing, an outstanding contribution to the nonprofit world and the ongoing work of social change."
According to their web site, the Tides Foundation is looking for someone who has:
- developed an elegant software product that serves a critical need in the broader U.S.-based nonprofit community.
- evolved a plan to scale the product through wide distribution of the code.
- exemplified the values of public interest computing.
- demonstrated vision and inspired innovation in the field of public interest computing.
But you don't need to work for a nationally recognized NPO to receive due consideration. According to Jason Sanders the Tides Foundation philanthropic advisor who coordinates the Pizzigati Prize, “We’re looking for people whose software is making a difference and that difference can be in any sized community.”
