A warm and hearty congratulations to Jim Fruchterman, one of the newest MacArthur Fellows (otherwise known as the MacArthur Genius Awards)! Jim is the founder of Benetech and a long standing member of the NTEN community. We love Jim's work because he proves every day that technology can change people's lives for the better.

My favorite Benetech project is Martus, a secure tool for reporting human rights violations. Benetech also vreated Bookshare.org, an online library of titles for the visually impaired. And I love that Benetech has also created tools for land mine detection.

A well deserved award for Jim, who is not only a genius, but a great guy to have a beer with (as those who were at last month's SF 501 Tech Club can attest!).
